We mock-voted in our city today.
Because voting is only limited to a small group of people in our city, our university set up a mock voting system for everyone today. Everyone is qualified, anyone can vote, just like a real election.
Of course, our results won't count. But it would be interesting to compare our results to the results of the small group of minority (the election committee) who will vote on Sunday.
Apparently, it was reported that because so many people were trying to mock vote online or via their phones, the website actually crashed. So instead, people took pains and headed out to the mock voting stations to cast their ballots. In the case that the voting stations run out of mock ballots, we actually brought blank pieces of paper with us.
All this effort to vote in an election that will not change the result in the end. What does it mean? Even though we know we can't change the outcomes, we still want to have our voices heard, we still want to go through the process, we still want do make our mark.
Good for us.
