My neighbour Totoru is one of the classic Japanese animes and Chris and I rewatched it this weekend mostly because we have forgotten one of the best childhood favourites.
The story is about a dad and his 2 daughters moving to a new neighbourhood in order to be closer to their mom who is recovering in the nearby hospital. The 2 daughters began to discover that there are these magical cats who live in the giant tree beside their new house.
These cats (the grey one and 2 little ones + the cat bus) are sort of like guardians who help the 2 daughters along the way. Of course, only children can see them (if they are lucky); adults can't.
It's a very sweet and innocent story...nothing complicated, twisted, or grey. It's just a very nice happy movie that makes you feel good.........and perhaps a little nostalgic about childhood (the good old days).
The music in the movie is, without a doubt, phenomenal. I shed a tear or two everytime I hear my favourite "The Path of the Wind". Some people have said that "Only people who believe there is still good in this world can produce music like this" and I absolutely agree.
The music is....exactly that...pure, beautiful, and magical. I'll put a youtube link here: The piano version
Enjoy <3
