a talk

So this afternoon, the head came into my office and we had the talk.

Head: So, do you have time to talk?  Very busy?
Me: No, I'm alright.
H: How are your courses?  Heavy workload this year.
Me: Yeah, but it's alright.  
H: So, regarding your vacation leave....you know, I personally don't mind....as long as I
     don't know about it, then it's fine.
Me: Yes, I understand.  I get it; thank you very much.

H: So, how long will you leave, actually?  All of two months?
M: No no...I will come back after the wedding, stay for about 2 weeks, then I must leave
     again.
H: I see.  So, what's your plan?  Do you plan to stay here after?
M: Yes, I think so.  I think both Chris and I plan to stay here.

H: Well, your current position will be cancelled next year, as you may or may not know. 
      Did Donald tell you about this?
M: No, he didn't. [I'm thinking: but I already found out from your secretary!]
H: But we are hiring a faculty position next year...3 year contract, non-tenure.
M: Ok, I will keep that in mind. [thinking: who would ever want to apply for a
      non-tenure position?]

H: Well, okay, if the department owes you any money or if you need anything, be sure to
      let me know and I'll see how I can help.
M: That's great.  Thank you very much.  Really, thanks a lot.

So, that was our shallow conversation.  He's a nice guy......but really, to me, it's just all a nice gesture to cover a whole lot of bull.  Whatever.....
